Should I stay or should I go?
Okay, I need a shout out for help. I am at level 21 with Marama. She is a Night Elf Druid. I never made any pretenses that I knew what I was doing when I started this game. In fact, I started it admitting I knew nothing. I have learned some things. In fact, some of my normal vocabulary has been replaced with game speak (as pointed out by another WoW woman gamer). But I am stuck. Stuck at level 21. I have a confession to make. I don't think I like Marama. I mean, sure she looks badass and all, but I am not loving the whole Druid/Night Elf experience. I picked her when I knew very little about what the races/classes etc were.
So, now that I have played many other characters in Burning Crusade, I am starting to fall in love with the Hunter. (Yes, I admit it is mainly because I love having a pet. Don't get me wrong, my little Zerling is fine and all, but doesn't help out worth crap. He is all vanity!)
So here is where you come in:
Do I start with a new character and pretend Marama never existed?
Will one of you be willing to train me in the ways of a Druid NIght Elf so that I can try to level this beyotch before the expansion pack is officially released?
[Sidenote: Just to show you how I struggle with this particular character and quests, last night my husband-level 60 hunter and level 40 plus on many others- walked in and saw where I was in the game and exclaimed, "What the hell are you doing there?? You are so going to get killed. Do you KNOW you are in the heart of Horde territory and most of the creatures there are level 25 and up? Log out and I will help you tomorrow." See? Totally newbie. Yes, I am a newbie. We all were once!]
And you see, I am already to level 17 with my Hunter in BC. So, what do you think I should do? By giving up Marama, that is quitting. That takes this whole experience and shows that it failed. Doesn't it?
Gamers, I know you sneak in here every now and then to read this trainwreck of a gaming blog. Let me hear from you. But save the nasty. I don't need the nasty.

How funny! All of my names are versions of the meaning MOON in honor of my buddies at Blizzard since I told them I would love to moon them.
I don't think that switching focus between characters is considered failure at all. You're not really expected to stick to one or another. You should play what you enjoy most!
Back in Open Beta for the game, I rolled a Druid. I didn't like it too much and when the game came out I played a Hunter and I enjoyed it. Then I quit playing WoW for a long time, came back, made a Druid, and played that one until it reached level 40 or so. Then I switched and rolled a mage and fell in love with playing a mage, and leveled that one up to 60. And now I'm back on my Druid and leveling her up to 60 (she's 51 at the moment).
But I also have that level 41 Hunter I started the game with that I've leveled up slowly from 32 (where I originally abandoned her), and I'll probably try to get her to 60 before the expansion.
My advice: play whatever you enjoy the most. No one will think it's a failure. Not everyone enjoys playing ever class (I'd never play a Warrior for example). :)
I agree with Ingrid and Michelle... with a slight twist. You have only hit level 21 with your druid. Perhaps it is just growing pains. I know I have gone through periods of serious dislike with my dwarf priest. She's awkward and hippy. She's short, her hair is unmanagable and... but now I love her again. Love love love her. I just keep a stack of deviate delight in my bag so I can look HOT! (yeah yeah, I'm a gamer but I'm still a woman)
It is just a game and it is so very not worth playing a character you will not like. If you are miserable, try something new. It's not failure, it's discovery. Think of it like dating in highschool, some of it's good, some of it isn't, keep trying until you find one that really fits.
If you're ever on Burning Blade, drop me a line!
Wyst - lvl 52 Dwarf Priest
Here by way of Friday Playdate.
I got sucked into WoW as my first MMORPG. Right now the main toons I play are a 45 warrior and a 28 priest on Gnomeregan. I also have a bank/AH alt. In coming to my mains, I have a variety of discarded characters at relatively low lvls. I don't really feel bad about abandoning them at all. It's a game, and if I'm not having fun playing a certain way, I'm not going to keep doing it. In fact, I'd encourage trying classes, even ones you don't think you'd like, because you could be surprised. I never thought I'd like playing a priest but I really do, especially in a group and in instances. A priest/anything group of 2 can plow through masses of quests very efficiently.
You'll probably come back to the druid anyway, because from reading your blog it seems you're also an alt-o-holic. :-)
Anyway, just do whatever you feel like.
If you have a sudden urge to roll a hunter, then do it. :D
Signed,
The starting-to-lurk-less lurker
coma, it's not so much that I am an "alt-o-holic" (at least not on my regular WoW account), but I will admit to it on my beta account. I just choose to look at that as "helping Blizzard" find the bugs by trying out every character. Regular WoW. I just have Marama.
For now.
But just wait.
BUT JUST WAIT!
I never get past level 40, and I've been playing for around a year now. Dave, my other half and I play Eve now, and I'm pretty dire at that.
I think the most important thing to remember is that its a game - its not life threatening if you don't get it right first time, then go ahead and scrap her. Sell her kit, transfer anything you can keep, in fact, strip her down, including her bank, and get it all sent over, if you can, to a character on the server and have fun with a better (for you) character.
As for 'alt-o-holic' - I think that unless you're on every server you can, and you're running ALL the characters you can on them, you ain't an altoholic. I have a total of six characters - because I like running around and doing different things, in different play styles.
Lord, my hubby is an alt fiend too!! Yet he's managed to reach 60 finally on a character he then stopped playing. :P 60 is awesome to reach but for some, once you hit the pinnacle it's just not that exciting anymore. We don't all have 50 hours a week to devote to raiding, especially us Mommy types!
Just have fun with it and explore. If you die, who cares? It's just pixels. :)
"What the hell are you doing there?? You are so going to get killed. Do you KNOW you are in the heart of Horde territory and most of the creatures there are level 25 and up? Log out and I will help you tomorrow."
This is great, a prime example of an illness all level 60s contract, at least for a while (ya I got it too). I call it the Iwasneveranoobitis, and its fatal to noobs all over the world. Don't let it get you down, the more comfortable you get with the game the more fun it becomes. You make great friends and who knows, maybe it could give someone an excuse to pull together a funny blog.
Well, I suggest you don't delete your first character. I suggest that since you are now concentrating on your hunter, you might want to give your other character new weapons which you found, like a new staff or helmet. Giving your character better equipped and maybe changing your mind. This can be achieved if both of your characters are in the same realm.
Well, you've received tons of advice already and I'm weeks behind on this, but here goes anyway...
Scrap Marama if you hate her. Or, just let her linger in limbo while you make a new character - specifically a hunter since that's what you seem to like. Starting a new character doesn't mean you're giving up or failing. It simply means you haven't fallen in love with the one you've made. My first character was a druid who got to level 6. I created an Orc Hunter and that druid was all but forgotten. Hunter got to 20 and I made a human priest. She became my main and first 60. I deleted the druid finally but can't delete the orc hunter (too many fond memories of making her with my boyfriend and our questing together).
Since then, I've made about 18 more characters that I play - some more than others, but I still play them. In between, I have made and deleted characters that just didn't do it for me.
I've been playing for a year and I don't feel like a failure in any sense of the word and neither should you. If you aren't ready to fully delete Marama, just make a nice hunter and see how much you enjoy her :-) And maybe take her to the human lands to quest for a change of location.
NEVER delete your first toon! You will regret it. Though what I deleted was a 60 NE Warrior, her name recycled, it never felt the same. You have 9 more open spaces use them but don't loose Marama. You may like the Hunter now because of your "anti-social" way of game play (which I can totally relate to)not to mention, it's less difficult to die when your pet takes a beating while you shoot, and that lovely FD ability! WooT! There may come a time when you realize that Hunters aren't the most wanted party members while running places like UBRS, LBRS, Strat and the like, but that Druid! Girl! I know you see the
/4 Looking For Group chat! NEED one more for UBRS, HEALER PLEASE! PLEASE! for the LOVE OF SOMEONE we need a HEALER!! Don't count her out yet or your desire to play her, as "k" said, maybe it is just growing pains and eventually you'll work through them.
Ariette/Sen'Jin 56 Orc Warrior
(I was born to be a warrior!) BTW just a side note here, this is my first visit here, was researching for an English paper (lol a 31 year old mother of 3 doing her English 102 paper on MMORPGS!!) and got caught up in the Blogs, I can totally relate the guilty mommy syndrome! (2 boys, ages 7 & 4, 1 girl age 6)
Hey! I couldn't get my druid past level 12. She just wasn't working for me. There is no shame in finding out that the character just isn't "you". I've made several characters and find that my first one is the one I love the most (human mage) however, my priestess made it to 60 somehow (I think because as a shadow gal she is like a mage who can heal herself lol). I'm also playing in the Beta. Look me up if you are on the pve realm I'm, Adelyne :). Take care!
Only thing i can say is:
Don't Delete your first character. Leave him/her to commemorate your first escapade in WoW. My first Character Was a paladin that got to level 7. now i alternate between my level 15 NE Hunter, Vaknere, and my level 16 NE rogue, Chasran, on whom I am currently playing. I love my two new ones, but i kept my old one cause i know someday ill go back and play on her. My advice is to keep her cause one day you might want to play her, but what if you deleted her =(? Keep her you might want to play her again. I know i will play my Paladin someday and maybe enjoy and appreciate her enough to get to level 60. Now stop reading this and go play, YOU NOOBIE. LOL. Have fun.
The real-world "finish what you start" mentality doesn't apply to games and having fun - that's what you're experiencing when you feel compelled to keep levelling your druid but you know you don't want to. Some people take it so far that they quit over things like that, it's insanity.
The first rule of gaming and MMOG's is HAVE FUN, wherever that takes you. Before you reach the level cap and get active with raiding, you can change classes every day of the week - whatever your heart desires.
Once you get active in raiding and start looting items that many people had to work hard for to earn, then changing characters can be a lot more political - especially the longer you wait. So, use this time to learn what you really like, and ask the level 60's around about how the raid roles of whatever class you like works out.

Wellllll.... I'm still quite the newbie (all your fault. I'm blaming you for the lack of doing dishes.) But here's what I have done. I had a pally I worked to about your level. But then! I had learned so much that I started a new pally. I really do like the paladins. I'm now a level 32. But I twinked it, by selling everything off my old char and sending to new char. I learned a lot from my guild too. I had started a warrior, and got to 14, when I quit that one. I realized life's too short to spend on a char you don't like - this is after all a game. I also have a night elf rogue, she's on another server. And I just started playing a human warlock (which I love). I would go ahead and start a new one. I know my hubby LOVES having a hunter, although he started out a warrior. He also likes warlocks. I pretty much stay where I'm "supposed" to as I'm a quest whore. Anyway - that's my story. BTW I deleted my first character, so I could use that name for my new warlock. All of mine have versions of the same name. FYI in case you're on the same server I'm Aundreiyla (pally) or Aundrayla (warlock)on Gnomeregan. If you're on the server my 32 could help you if you like =)
